If we were to sum up the life of Anwar Shehzad in a single sentence, one could say that he is a compassionate saviour who has devoted himself to the service of others. His story is not merely the personal struggle of one man but a tale of hope, support, and guidance for an entire community. He emerged at a time when the vulnerable sections of society—especially Christian girls and children—were suffering from oppression, poverty, and deprivation. The wave of empathy that stirred in his heart not only changed the direction of his life but also kindled a lamp of hope for thousands of households.
In 1981 (or 1988 depending on context), when a Christian girl was wronged—branded a thief, beaten, and her dignity violated at the police station—the incident struck Anwar Shehzad like a lightning bolt. It proved to be the turning point of his life. For someone with a sensitive heart, that was an unbearable scene. After witnessing her miserable condition, he decided that now he would not remain silent, but take action. He gathered his friends and associates, they collected donations together, and a small initiative became the foundation of a much larger journey. In those moments, the establishment of “Human Care” began, which later became a support for thousands of helpless people.
Anwar Shehzad did not tie his life’s work to institutional funding. He carried forward his journey on the basis of self‑reliance. He believed that if sincerity is in the heart and truth in the intention, God Himself opens the paths. That’s why what began with a small donation gradually expanded. Hundreds of stitching and embroidery centres were established, where thousands of poor girls learned skills and began to earn an honourable living at home. These girls, who once were enduring humiliation as servants in rich households, were now living with dignity through their own handiwork. These centres in places like Mehr Town, Bakar Mandi, Bahar Colony, Sheikhupura, and many other areas are living proofs of his service.
Anwar Shehzad’s service was not limited to Lahore, Sheikhupura, or other areas of Punjab. His heart’s yearning was not only for his own community but for every human being living in deprivation and misery. This passion took him to remote desert and rural regions of Sindh, where poverty and backwardness were at their worst. In those areas, girls and women used to walk miles fetching water in pots and pitchers. Sometimes the distance was ten to fifteen kilometers. Despite the scorching sun, searing ground, and intense thirst, these young lives were compelled to make that tough journey every day.
When Anwar Shehzad saw these sights, a new pain awakened in his heart. He thought: if these innocent girls spend the better part of their days fetching water, how will they obtain education? How would they acquire skills? How would they fulfill their dreams? This thought marked the beginning of a new journey for him. He arranged for numerous handpumps to be installed in those deprived areas of Sindh so that people could access clean water near their homes and villages. This service not only eased life for women and girls but transformed the lives of entire villages.
Now those same girls who once walked miles for water began going to school, learning stitching and embroidery, and becoming sources of joy and peace for their homes. These handpumps did not merely provide water but became new fountains of hope. In the Sindhi villages where thirst and fatigue previously dominated, a climate of comfort and gratitude was now established.
This example proves that Anwar Shehzad’s vision was not confined to a single region or class. His thinking was broad, and his heart even broader. He believed that there is no geography for the service of humanity, nor is it constrained by religion, race, or language. In his view, every girl, every mother, and every family that is caught in hardship deserves help. That is why his services extended from Punjab into the deserted regions of Sindh, and even today the people in those areas draw the nectar of life from the handpumps he had installed.
His work was not limited just to skill development; it also moved toward education. He founded schools for those children who, due to poverty, remained deprived of education. In the inaugurations and events of these institutions, political and social figures also participated, but Anwar Shehzad never retained a desire for fame or praise. For him, true success was the smile on the face of an orphan child, or the peace that a poor mother feels when thinking of her daughter’s safe future.
It is true that with every good deed, obstacles arise. Anwar Shehzad also faced many dangers on his path. There were attempts to defame him; accusations were made; even attempts on his life. Yet he did not bow nor stop. He says that Satan always tries to become an obstacle in the path of goodness, but if one’s faith is strong, these obstacles do not become walls—they become embers that ignite courage. His resolve only grew stronger after each difficulty.
His greatest strength was his faith. He believed that God had chosen him for the service of others. He often says that when a mother weeps thankful tears for her daughter’s safety, that moment itself is the real reward. That passion became the capital of his service. He knew that this journey would not be easy, but he made it the purpose of his life.
Among the most outstanding qualities of his personality is his humility. He never tried to link his services to his own ego but always attributed them to God’s mercy. He believed that without God’s help, a person cannot do anything alone. That is why every step he took was accompanied by prayer and gratitude.
His services were not limited to the Christian community alone. He proved to be a saviour to every oppressed, every helpless human being. Whether a child, a widow, or an orphan, Anwar Shehzad was always ready to help. He teaches humanity by deed, not just by words. He believes that love, compassion, and brotherhood are the weapons that can defeat hatred and oppression.
Today, when we look back, his journey resembles a tree—what started as a small sapling has become a mighty tree. Under its shade, thousands of families take refuge. His efforts have not only empowered poor girls but have brought an entire generation out of the darkness of indignity and into the light of dignity.
The story of Anwar Shehzad is proof that if one’s intention is pure and one has compassion for others, any person can become a saviour. He is living evidence that one doesn't need a high office or wealth for social reform—only sincere passion is required. His life teaches us that no matter how great the difficulties, if one’s resolve is firm, one can stay on the path of goodness.
He remains today a ray of hope for his community. Even now, in his tired yet bright eyes, he harbours the dream that every girl may live with dignity, every child may obtain education, and every poor family may be free from hunger and disgrace. His life is a message that being a messiah is not merely about prayers or words but about service and sacrifice.
Anwar Shehzad is truly a saviour who, by forgetting himself, took upon himself the task of improving the lives of others. His story is one of love, service, sacrifice, and faith. And this story will continue teaching coming generations that service of humanity is the greatest form of worship.
